A joint that is combined by two or more parts using a welding method is called a welded joint, welded joints include welds, fusion zones and heat affected zones.

When welding, the workpiece to be welded is under the action of arc heat, after the base metal and the filler metal are melted to form a molten pool, when the heat sources leaves, the molten metal begins to cool and crystallize, forming a weld after solidification.

During the welding process, because the base metal in the near weld area is also affected by arc heat, the structure and properties of this part of the base metal will change, this changed parent material area, called the heat affected zone of the weld.

The fusion zone is a narrow area between the weld and the base metal, the metal is partially melted and the grains are larger, the plasticity and toughness of the metal are reduced, which is a weak area in the welded joint, and also a transition between the weld and the heat affected zone.

According to the national standard GB985-1988, the basic form of welded joints can be divided into: butt joints, lap joints, angle joints and T joints.

According to different welding methods, welded joints can be divided into three major categories: welded joints, welded joints and brazed joints.

Depending on the form of the joint, welded joints can be divided into 10 types: butt joint, T joint, cross joint, lap joint, cover joint, casing joint, plug joint, fillet weld joint, crimp joint and end joint.
