U-shaped steel arch is a passive support for coal mine roadways. It has the characteristics of high tensile strength, high compressive strength, and high support strength. The common U-shaped steel arch is composed of the following five parts, each of which plays a different role.

1. Roof beam: The roof beam is arc-shaped, and its number depends on the size of the roadway section, the support force, and the transportation conditions. The reasonably designed curved surface plays a role in solidly conforming to geology.

2. Column legs: There are three types of column legs, one is a circular arc at the top and a straight line at the bottom; the second is all curved and has only one radius of curvature; But there are two radii of curvature. A base is welded under the leg of the column, and the size of the base depends on the softness and rigidity of the base plate.

3. Connection piece: The connection piece is a clamping device between the bracket section and the intersection, which can play the role of intersection connection. It can also press the two sections of the steel joints connected to provide pre-tensioning force. The friction force ensures that the arched bracket has a certain working resistance and a certain amount of shrinkage.

4. Inter-rack rods: The role of inter-rack rods is to enhance the overall relative stability of the stent, and connect the stent from the longitudinal direction to form a whole.

5. Backing material: The backing material is the filling material between the U-shaped steel bracket and the surrounding rock, the purpose is to make the U-shaped steel bracket contact the surrounding rock closely, improve the stress condition of the bracket, increase its bearing capacity and maintain the surrounding rock the stability.
